I’m always so enthralled by the product, that to have to step back from it’s development was a hard transition for me, but changes like this happen as a company becomes bigger and acquisitions, investments, etc. It was very hard for me to no longer be close to a product that I had developed and engineered for the past nine years. This meant being removed from the Product & Engineering team to focus on our new media initiatives with respect to community growth. I was asked to move from Chief Technology Officer to Chief Creative Officer. With the investment, came some changes for me within Untappd. Shortly after that, we announced that Untappd had received a major investment by Providence Strategic Growth. Consolidating two major players in the beer world together under one roof was a major move for us. In February, we acquired the assets for Beer Advocate, a popular rating website that rivaled Untappd back in the early 2010s. It was a lofty goal, a passion project, and never did I imagine that we’d still be achieving and reaching for this goal ten years later with a team of over 90+ employees, in three countries across the globe.Ģ020 has been a very impactful year for Untappd.

We had this idea for an app with our goal being to disrupt the beer world and make that world more inclusive and open the beer community to the discovery of beers, bars, breweries and friends.

This year marks our tenth anniversary, and to be honest, I never thought we’d get here, but here we are and this year has been very different than the past years, for many reasons.Īt the inception of Untappd, we were just a two man team, who had met over Twitter, who lived on opposite sides of the country and had full time jobs unrelated to the beer world.

Every Untappd anniversary, I try look back on our past year (see prior years: 9, 8).
